Day European Spa Touch
Coach Trip is a reality TV show shown on Channel 4 in Britain. Four series have so far been made, with the first series filmed in 2004 and shown in 2005, the second filmed in 2005 and shown in 2006, the third filmed in 2008 and shown in 2009 and the fourth series filmed in 2009 and shown currently. The show's format consists of seven teams of two travelling around Europe on a coach for 30 days in the first three series and 50 days in the fourth series, while attempting to avoid being voted off the trip along the way, to be replaced by a replacement couple. The tour guide is Brendan Sheerin, who has since been labelled a "British institution" by the British media.
Series 4 began its first airing on Monday 15 February 2010 at 5.00pm
The Coach Drivers
The driver of series one was Chris Groombridge, who drives for a Motts Travel in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. The driver of series two and three was Paul Donald. Motts Travel have supplied the specially adapted coach for all three series this far. The driver of series four is Paul Donald, driving the latest coach in the Motts Travel fleet to be converted for the Coach Trip, MT09 MTT.
The Coach Registration Plates
The resgistration number plate of series one and two was T100 MTT. The resgistration number plate of series three was MT04 MTT. Motts Travel had two different coach registration number plates for all three series this far. The registration number plate of series four and later series is used by Motts Travel with a new registration as MT09 MTT.
TV Scheduling
The first series which was shown at 4:30pm and repeated the following morning, developed a small cult following. The second series was shown at 2:55pm with no repeats. Repeats of the first series began showing on Sky Real Lives in January 2008, at 3:30pm and 4:00pm (two shows back-to-back)on SKY Real Lives. The first series was repeated{again}on Monday 16 June 2008 at 3:30PM. The second series of the show will start to repeat on Saturday 5 July at 8.00am on Sky Real Lives and also is on at 9.00am on Sky Real Lives +1. Repeats of series 2 now showing Weekdays at 5pm with a Double Bill on Sky Real Lives. Series 4 began its first airing on Monday 15 February 2010 at 5.00pm, with one episode per weekday, just as with series 3.
Series 1 and 2 were shown in Australia on the Australian Broadcasting Commission's digital channel ABC2 from late 2008 to February 2009, at 6:35 pm weekdays. The same channel showed Series 3 from October 6, 2009 at 7:30pm weekdays.
Series One
Main article: Coach Trip (series one)Series one began showing on 7 March 2005. The trip went through several European countries. Chris Groombridge was the driver, Brendan Sheerin was the tour guide. Andy Love was narrator and the registration was T100 MTT.
Series Two
Main article: Coach Trip (series two)Coach Trip series two began showing on 22 May 2006. This year the trip was centred on Mediterranean countries. Brendan returned as the tour guide. The narrator once again was Andy Love and the registration number plate once again was T100 MTT. Paul Donald was the driver.
Series Three
Main article: Coach Trip (series three)Coach Trip 3 was the third series of Coach Trip in the United Kingdom. The show's format remained unchanged from the previous series: seven couples of two travelling around Europe on a coach for 30 days attempting to avoid being voted off the coach by their fellow travellers. Tour guide Brendan Sheerin and coach driver Paul Donald both returned for this series, which aired on Channel 4. David Quantick was the narrator and MT04 MTT was the registration number plate.
Commissioning of Series 4
The following announcement was posted on the Channel 4 website on 30 June 2009:
Tuesday 30 June 2009 If you would like the chance to join Tour Guide Brendan onboard an exciting European adventure and explore some of Europe's finest cities and sights, then get in touch now. We are looking for pairs of travel buddies of all ages to join the trip - partners, friends, student and teacher relations comediens or colleagues; any kind of friendship or relationship is fine. For more details and an application form please contact: coachtrip@12yard.com Please note all applicants must be 18 or over at the start of September 2009.
This would lead to the assumption that the 4th series will begin shooting in September 2009 with a potential screening in late spring and summer 2010 as this was the original plan for Series 3 which then ended up being held back until the last week of May, instead of January 2009. Instead of having the standard 30 episodes and 29 votes in a 6 week format, Channel 4 have decided to exend it to a 50 episode, 49 vote, 10 week format. The trip will take in 50 cities, including Egypt, Istanbul, Athens, Sicily and Malta.
Series Four
Main article: Coach Trip (series four)Coach Trip 4 is the fourth series of Coach Trip in the United Kingdom which began airing on Monday 15th February, 2010. The show's basic format remained unchanged from the previous series: seven couples of two travelling around Europe on a coach attempting to avoid being voted off the coach by their fellow travellers. The length of this series was longer than the previous installments, increased from 30 days to 50 days for a tour centred on European and Mediterranean countries. Tour guide Brendan Sheerin, coach driver Paul Donald and narrator David Quantick all returned for this series, which aired on Channel 4.
