Stan McQuay (b. July 12, 1973 in Yokosuka, Japan) is an IFBB professional bodybuilder.
Stan has been featured in many bodybuilding magazines and videos, including being featured on the cover of Muscle Polynesia, despite not being Polynesian.
Born in Yokosuka, Japan in 1973 to a Japanese mother and Irish father, Stan McQuay moved to the United States with his family at an early age, living first in Illinois before settling in Van Nuys, California. Growing up in the San Fernando Valley, Stan spent most of his free time surfing and skateboarding. To his friends he was a standout having the ability to keep up or push further. His sense of humor and charm made him quite a popular kid in grade school. Stan became steadily employed and enrolled in community college. He applied himself to his studies and to athletic pursuits. A naturally athletic child, Stan had excelled in martial arts from a young age, winning two black belts in separate discipline. He had also been a keen football player from the age of nine. At a maximum height of 5’ 7” and weighing 135lbs, Stan began weight-training in order to gain the muscle-mass necessary for college football. His body responded quickly and he was soon playing football for his college.
His physique garnered Stan admiring comments at the gym where he trained and he frequently asked whether he was a serious bodybuilder and interested in competing. Stan had not considered this and knew little of serious bodybuilding until challenged by a friend to enter a local bodybuilding contest. Stan applied himself to the task, got a personal trainer and made such rapid progress that his friend dropped out of the running. Stan went on to win the competition.
Changing his major from business finance to kinesiology, Stan graduated and became a certified personal trainer. Today Stan lives in Canoga Park, California, works up to fifty hours a week as a popular personal trainer and pursues bodybuilding for competition. Most recently, Stan moved a competitive middleweight to a light-heavyweight, and was able to win his pro-card as a light-heavyweight at the 2006 NPC Nationals. His physique and striking good-looks have made him a popular fitness model and he has appeared on the cover of several publications.
