This is a list of characters from the Saints Row 2 video game developed by Volition for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows systems. The game is centered around the protagonist, who awakens from a coma to find his former gang, the 3rd Street Saints, have fallen into despair. The protagonist journeys off into Stilwater on a quest for vengeance and retribution against those who have betrayed him.
The Protagonist/Boss
The player character can be male or female. For the sake of simplicity, The Boss will be referred to as a male throughout this article.
Reintroduced in: "Jailbreak"
The nameless protagonist and playable character in Saints Row 2 is referred to as the Boss , because he leads the 3rd Street Saints gang.
At the end of Saints Row , a bomb is triggered on a yacht by former Saints leader Julius Little and the Boss, who was on the yacht at the time, suffered a trauma-induced coma and spent five years in a prison hospital ward. When he wakes up, he meets fellow inmate Carlos Mendoza and the two escape the island and return to his home city, Stilwater. After learning of the Saints' decline, the protagonist resurrects them by freeing convicted mass-murderer and former Saint Johnny Gat, who helps the protagonist employ his friends, escaped convicts Shaundi and Pierce. After the Saints are revived, the storyline then splits off into three separate narratives, following the Saints' quest to eliminate three rival gangs which have conquered Stilwater during the Saints' hiatus.
The protagonist is portrayed as highly sociopathic and shares Johnny's fondness and extreme comradery for weaponry and violence. He has a strong friendship with Shaundi, praising her quick thinking and connections, likes to poke fun at Pierce and tolerates his excessive complaints, and acts as a role model for Carlos until his death at the hands of the Brotherhood. The protagonist also carries a deep hatred for former friend and Saints' leader Julius Little, as it was Julius who detonated the bomb aboard the yacht from Saints Row . It appears that now Chief of Police and former undercover cop Troy Bradshaw has been forgiven and somewhat befriended by the protagonist, even though it was him who undermined the Saints. The Boss's personality can be influenced by which voice the player chooses for him/her, e.g. Male Voice 2 suggests a flirty relationship with Shaundi, Female Voice 3 creates a romantic overtone with Johnny and Pierce, and all have different levels of animosity/forgiveness towards Troy. The different voices also affect which songs that the protagonist sings to, although they all seem to have a fondness for the song Take on Me by A-ha

3rd Street Saints
The 3rd Street Saints were scattered after the events of Saints Row . Eventually the Boss, along with Carlos, escaped from the prison island where he was being held captive, and formed a new crew of Saints to fight against the new gangs in power over Stilwater. All four lieutenants can be unlocked as "homies" and called for backup outside of story missions.
Johnny Gat
Reintroduced in: "Appointed Defender"
Johnny Gat was one of the lieutenants in the original Saints Row , he is born of American-Chinese ancestors and known for his love of weaponry and destruction. In Saints Row 2 , it is revealed that he is still involved with Aisha, and continued to stay loyal to the 3rd Street Saints even after their demise, and his eventual arrest. The Boss helps Johnny escape from a courtroom proceeding that would have otherwise sent him to the electric chair for the killings of over three hundred people. In return, Johnny helps the Boss bring the Saints back to their former glory and forms an extreme comradeship, all involving extreme violence. Johnny nearly dies from injuries sustained in a sword fight with Ronin lieutenant Jyunichi, after an ambush that also leaves Aisha dead. After making a sufficient recovery, the Boss assigns Gat to assist Pierce in dealing with the Ronin. When Ronin second-in-command Shogo rushes onto the scene on a motorcycle and demands a showdown at Aisha's funeral, he and The Boss dispatch of Shogo's henchmen and chase after him on motorcycle. Upon catching him, Johnny beats him down and buries him alive. Other Saints' members often comment to the Boss that losing Aisha has sent Johnny "even more over the edge". However, a female Saint can be heard saying that with Aisha dead, she has a chance to move on him. He is unlocked after the protagonist defeats the Ronin. He drives a Stiletto (Cadillac) and wields a K6 Krukov (AK-47), but whenever he loses his assault rifle (when thrown several feet away or dropped to the ground via combat attacks), he can grab any object lying around or a dropped firearm nearby, and he will use them to defeat enemies that are attacking The Boss. He is last seen fighting the SWPD while the Boss, Shaundi,and Pierce return to the Saints headquarters.
Johnny Gat is voiced by Daniel Dae Kim .
Shaundi
Introduced in: "Three Kings"
Shaundi is one of the new lieutenants for the Saints. She is Caucasian and wears a grey tank top and her hair is tied into light brown dreadlocks with a purple bandanna. She is the Saint assigned to take down the Sons of Samedi and handle drug dealing on the Saints' behalf, but also helps with the Brotherhood after Carlos is killed. She seems to have a sarcastic, dry demeanor and has trouble taking things seriously. She has a multitude of ex-boyfriends who frequently contact her with useful information, and enjoys partying all the time. There also seems to be a running joke in cut scenes and with pedestrians who constantly reference having had sex with her, and Pierce frequently complains about Shaundi's ability to retrieve information without having to work for it. One pedestrian hints that she may have an exotic STD. Among her ex-boyfriends are Veteran Child and Blake the Frat Boy. Richie, a baggage handler at Wardill Airport also hints that he likes her, as does as a Saint complaining that everyone else is sleeping with her except him. She gets held hostage by Veteran Child, and is rescued by the Boss. She is also seen throughout the game to be smoking some sort of pipe, bong, or cigar/blunt around the Boss, much to his distaste. She is said to have bad body odour, she has a blog, and is envied by a few of the female Saints. She also takes the time to play jokes on the Boss and watching his reaction by inviting him to play Skee-Ball and saying that she never received his calls because she was stoned, or forgetting that Veteran Child had told her that the Samedi had a Loa Dust farm on the Stilwater University campus. She finds amusement in watching the Boss's antics while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, jokingly referring to him as a "fucking lightweight." She also thinks that she'll eventually be able to take on Gat or Pierce after helping the Boss take down the General in the mall, much to the Boss's amusement. The Boss protects her from the Ronin while she makes deals around the north island, and also steals cars for one of Shaundi's friends, an artist named Krif Jacobs. When drunk,some of the Boss voice sets occasionally make comments that imply s/he may have feelings for Shaundi (even if the Boss is female). She is unlocked as a homie when the player defeats the Sons of Samedi, she drives a Voyage minivan and carries a K6 Krukov.
Shaundi is voiced by Eliza Dushku . Niki Rubin (the actor who is "Lady Action" in the new "Lady Action" and "Captain Action" comic books) performed Shaundi's motion capture and all of her body language movements.
Shaundi is also in a radio tag in the game Red Faction: Guerrilla.
Carlos Mendoza
Introduced in: "Jailbreak"
Killed in: "Red Asphalt"
Carlos Mendoza appears to be in his early twenties and is of Hispanic descent. After putting himself within the confines of Stilwater Penitentiary, Carlos gets himself shanked by a prisoner and is sent to the intensive care unit of the prison hospital, where he convinces the Boss that the Saints have disintegrated. The Boss then agrees to escape prison with Carlos and the pair return to Stilwater on a stolen prison boat. During their escape, Carlos reveals he had a brother within the Saints, although the brother's identity is not revealed.
After the Saints are resurrected, the Boss assigns Carlos as a lieutenant, who accompanies him on a meeting with Maero, the leader of the Brotherhood of Stilwater. After Maero suggests an 20-80 (%) split with the Saints for power over Stilwater, the Boss is outraged and asks Carlos to gain as much crippling information about the Brotherhood as he can. Although Carlos barely meets up to the Boss' expectations, he still has confidence in him and tells him "I'll make a banger out of you if it kills me".
After the Boss poisons Maero's tattoo ink with radioactive waste, causing his face to burn, Maero is enraged and kidnaps Carlos. After Maero's girlfriend Jessica informs the Boss
